Meal Plan on a Budget

Meal planning doesn’t necessarily need to begin with a big change, it can be incorporated with one small step at a time.

  • Plan ahead- Plan your weekly meals ahead. Count out the number of meals for the week, and plan out ingredients you can use over multiple recipes. Choosing more vegetarian options throughout the week and checking your pantry to see what ingredients you already have on hand can also help to reduce costs.

  • Buy in bulk and cook in batches- Buy your foods in bulk, and cook in batches to help extend your meals for the next day’s lunch. Opting for frozen over fresh can also help to reduce costs and make your cooking experience much easier.

  • Optimize your grocery shopping experience- Prior to grocery shopping, make a list of ingredients (according to the number of meals you have for the week). Avoid shopping on an empty stomach as that may cause you to over spend and may lead to buying unnecessary or unhealthy snack items.

  • Cook at home more often- Ditch the delivery meal services and limit the amount of restaurant visits. Make cooking at home easier by doing all of the above- planning ahead, cooking in bulk and optimizing your grocery experience. Additionally, check out our recipe of the month for August for a low budget, healthy option.
